Coconut

Coconut is a celebratory show and shared discussion about being 'othered', from outside and within. Over a meal, this conversation explores how systemic racism subtly embeds itself in the daily lives of diasporic communities,  exploring the often-unseen ways individuals internalise and uphold oppressive norms.

The discussion explores these themes of 'othering' through the lens of food, culture and community. Coconut is all about connection - we can build stronger communities and gather more powerfully. Let’s start here with good food and open conversation.

Coconut was born from Ria’s experiences of growing up in an Indian household, where mealtimes were for chatting, sharing, and bonding over a home cooked meal.

Food is so deeply rooted in culture that it is the vehicle that carries the conversation in Coconut. Food speaks the language of domesticity, and that is the feeling that we hope to recreate in Coconut - comfort and belonging, through something that for most communities is the utmost feeling of ‘home’.
